Onda Sonora: Red Hot + Lisbon is a compilation album by the New York AIDS aid organization Red Hot Organization from 1999.

The album is based on Lisbon as the center of a cultural space that has left its mark on the trade routes from Brazil through Africa to Asia. In the accompanying booklet, the bilingual Portuguese-English text mentions the various Portuguese cultural influences in the world, but also the critical aspects of Portuguese colonial history . The album was released for the World Exhibition Expo 98 in Lisbon.

The music gathered here combines Fado and Bossa Nova , the music of the Cape Verde Islands with the rhythms of Angola , and elements of traditional playing styles with the various modern, international musical styles. On the album you can find u. a. a duet by David Byrne with Caetano Veloso , a remix of a Madredeus piece, a piece sung in Brazilian Portuguese by the trip-hop group Smoke City , and a joint piece by Bonga with Marisa Monte and Carlinhos Brown .

The version of the Fado standard Fado Hilário is particularly unusual : it is sung by the Canadian singer kd lang accompanied by António Chainho , an old master of the Portuguese guitar . It is a very rare case of a fado that is not sung by a Portuguese woman. Chainho expressly praised kd for a long time.

The CD is the 11th of the 16 benefit albums published by the Red Hot Organization to support AIDS relief projects around the world . It received less attention than some of its predecessors, such as Red Hot + Blue or Red Hot + Rio .
