Marisa Monte (2012)

Marisa de Azevedo Monte (born July 1, 1967 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian singer and one of the biggest stars of the Música Popular Brasileira (MPB). It has also made a name for itself in Europe, the USA and Japan.

Marisa Monte is trained as a classical singer. Her warm mezzo-soprano is very flexible and gives her songs, which are combined from various styles of the MPB, a fascinating touch. She maintains traditional samba and folklore melodies in her repertoire , but is also open to new developments and other styles.

She often works with musicians and songwriters Carlinhos Brown , Arnaldo Antunes , Nando Reis and with New York noise guitarist and producer Arto Lindsay . With Brown and Antunes, Marisa Monte formed the band project Tribalistas in 2002 , whose title Já Sei Namorar (I know to love) topped the Brazilian charts for months, but was also quite successful in Europe and the USA.

From 2003 to 2007 she was married to the 16 years younger musician Pedro Bernardes. Their son was born on December 17, 2002, and their daughter was born in 2008.
