Carlinhos Brown , also known as Carlito Marrón, actually Antônio Carlos Santos de Freitas (born November 23, 1962 in Salvador da Bahía ) is a Brazilian musician and songwriter . He took his surname "Brown" in honor of Black Panther member H. Rap ​​Brown and James Brown . His music is a mixture of Brazilian and Caribbean music with elements of funk , rock and soul .

Life

He was the founder and mentor of the music group and carnival group Timbalada and can be heard as a guest singer and percussionist in the song Rattamahatta on the album Roots by the Brazilian metal band Sepultura .

In 2002 he founded the music group Tribalistas with Arnaldo Antunes and Marisa Monte . The song Já Sei Namorar landed at number one in the Brazilian charts and also with a second song, Velha Infância, he had great success. He is also very successful outside of Brazil.

In 2007 the seventh studio album A Gente Ainda Não Sonhou was released on Sony BMG and in Germany on the Marburg label Tropical Music. The CD contains 14 new recordings that were made in collaboration with Marisa Monte , Jaques Morelenbaum , Javier Limon and others.

On the occasion of the Soccer World Cup in Brazil in 2014, Carlinhos Brown has released a current version of his title “Cadê O Timbal” from 1994, which, however, is marketed under the title “Timbaleiro”. Some websites are already claiming that this is the official World Cup anthem. This version is not yet available in stores and is currently circulating on the Internet video platform YouTube .

Since 2012 he has hosted the program The Voice Brasil alongside Claudia Leitte and Lulu Santos .

In collaboration with Sérgio Mendes and Siedah Garrett with the song Real in Rio for the film Rio , he was nominated for an Oscar in 2012 .

He sang the World Cup song La La La (Brazil 2014) with Shakira .

In 2018 Brown was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars annually.
