Timbalada

Timbalada is a Brazilian music group from Salvador da Bahia , which was founded in 1992 by Carlinhos Brown and of which he was artistic director for a long time.

They take part in the Carnival of Salvador and a smaller formation does stage programs, records the CDs and tours all over the world. Timbalada describes itself neither as a bloco afro nor as a “block of whites, reds or yellows”, but as a “banda do ser humano”, “group of being human”. They changed the Sambareggae to a style of their own, which was heavily enriched with elements of funk , and which they call "Timbalada" or "Candeal Beat" (after the district of Salvador from which the musicians come). She played a special role in the spread of the Timba drum : hence the group name. Before performing, they always paint their heads and bodies with imaginative patterns of white paint.
