The Aachener Bank eG is a regional cooperative bank with offices in Aachen and the neighboring regions. The bank was founded in 1899 and has 17 branches.

Organizational information

The bank is a registered cooperative bank. Customers can purchase membership at the bank. According to the articles of association, the members have influence on the business policy decisions of cooperative banks. At Aachener Bank, this takes place via the annual meeting of representatives.

The Aachener Bank has a branch network of a total of 17 branches in Aachen and the neighboring communities of Aldenhoven , Alsdorf , Baesweiler , Inden , Jülich and Linnich ( Ederen ). The bank also has 12 other ATM locations.

In connection with customer care, the Aachener Bank, as a universal bank, represents a holistic advisory concept that includes the cooperative network. This includes u. a. the Bausparkasse Schwaebisch Hall , the team bench ( easy credit ), the R + V Versicherung and Union Investment as cooperation partners.

Regional commitment

As a regional Volksbank, the Aachener Bank supports numerous events and associations in the region. Charitable and non-profit projects in the region are supported and made possible. history

The foundation

Aachener Bank eG was founded on December 3, 1899 as a cooperative bank in Aachen by nine master craftsmen. This meeting is considered the first general assembly. The bank was registered with the royal district court in Aachen on December 30, 1899 under the company name Aachener Creditbank eG.

Aachener Creditbank eG survived the economic crisis of 1929 thanks to a good liquidity situation and was able to rent larger business premises. The aim was consistently to work out a good economic situation. In the first years of the war, the balance sheet volume increased significantly due to a high increase in deposits. At the end of the war year 1942, the balance sheet total rose to 4 million Reichsmarks.

The time until the currency conversion from the Reichsmark to the Deutsche Mark was marked by stagnation, but the trust between Aachener Creditbank eG and its members was proven by the fact that the reconstruction could be supported by given loans, although no real values ​​were available as collateral stood.

Due to the establishment of banks with similar names in the post-war period, the company name was changed from Aachener Creditbank eG to Aachener Bank eG following a resolution by the General Assembly in 1953.

Mergers and expansion of the business area

The business area was u. a. expanded through several mergers and new branches over the years as follows:

  • In 1960 there was a merger with Volksbank Alsdorf to expand the business area in the northern region. This increased the balance sheet total by 6 million DM to 35 million DM at the end of the year.
  • In the 1960s, five new branches were opened in Aachen .
  • The next merger with Volksbank Jülich took place in 1977. This enabled the business area to be extended to the city of Jülich and the Jülich region.
  • On December 1, 1982, the two branches of the former Volksbank Kohlscheid in the city area were transferred to the Aachener Bank.
  • Two months later, on December 9, 1982, another branch was opened in the Aachen industrial area Dresdener Strasse. The range of services offered by a banking company was previously lacking in this up-and-coming industrial park, which enabled further business relationships to be established. At the end of 1982 the balance sheet total increased to 500 million DM.
  • Aachener Bank eG has also been represented in the growing residential area of ​​Brand since 1984.
  • Due to the proximity to Belgium , a branch was opened in Eupen in 1990 . This expansion revealed a special position for Aachener Bank eG as a bank in the border region to Belgium and the Netherlands .
  • Further branches were opened in Würselen on December 1, 1992 and in the Inden -Altdorf relocation site on August 4, 1993.
  • In 1998 the merger with the Raiffeisenbank Walheim-Kornelimünster was completed, followed in 2001 by the merger with the Volksbank Aachen-Süd, whereby the southern area of ​​Aachen could be further developed.
  • In the last merger in 2015, the merger with Raiffeisenbank Aldenhoven took place, adding three more branches, so that the business area expanded further in the northern area.
