Lulu Santos (born May 4, 1953 in Rio de Janeiro ), actually Luiz Maurício Pragana dos Santos, is a Brazilian singer , guitarist and composer .

Career

Lulu Santos loved the Beatles in his youth and played in the band Cave Man. Unlike his father, he did not want to pursue a military career, but left home early and lived as a hippie. At the age of 19 he played in the group Veludo Elétrico and later with Vímana. In 1981 he signed a record deal with WEA and recorded the album "Tesouros da Juventude" with journalist Nelson Motta. "Tempos Modernos" followed in 1982, "O Ritmo do Momento" in 1983 and "O Último Romântico" in 1984. His song "Como uma Onda", which he wrote in 1983, became the theme song for the telenovela of the same name, which was broadcast on TV Globo from 1994 to 1995. In 1985 Lulu Santos played at the Rock in Rio music festival and won a platinum record, but gave the award back because he had not achieved the necessary sales of 250,000 copies. This was followed by a creative crisis, Lulu Santos experimented with style elements of Pop and MPB, but without building on the earlier successes with the albums "Popsambalanço", "Outras Levadas", "Honolulu" and "Mondo Cane". Only through a partnership with the musician DJ Memê did Lulu Santos become successful again. Lulu Santos toured with his band for three years with the album "Longplay" in 2007 and had a total of five million visitors to his shows. In 2010 Lulu Santos celebrated its 30th anniversary on stage and 20 years of MTV in Brazil .

Lulu Santos was married to the journalist Scarlete Moon until their divorce in 2006.
