Gotan Project is a music group from Paris who became known for Electrotango . The band name is a play on words from the Lunfardo and was created by interchanging syllables from the word tango . Something similar happens in Verlan, France . A sound-defining instrument in the music of the Gotan Project is the bandoneon typical of tango .

history

The group was founded in 1999. Cohen Solal and Müller worked together earlier as Boyz from Brazil , Christoph H. Müller played with Touch El Arab . The debut album La revancha del tango was released in 2001. This core trio drew Argentine musicians such as the pianist Gustavo Beytelmann , the bandoneonist Nini Flores and the percussionist Edi Tomassi as well as the Danish violinist Line Kruse and the Catalan singer Cristina Vilallonga for this and other productions .

In 2003, the group received the World Music Award of the BBC in the category Newcomer .

The title Santa maría (del buen ayre) was used in the film May I ask? (USA 2004, original title: Shall We Dance? ) Used for a tango between the main actors Jennifer Lopez and Richard Gere . In 2009, the song Época was used for a TV commercial for the dish cleaner Calgonit . Santa Maria was also featured in the 2010 action comedy Knight and Day , which starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, which also featured the title Diferente . In the Tanzfabrik from the series Everything that counts , people often dance to the title Peligro .

On their album Tango 3.0 from 2010, Dr. John in the title Tango Square on the B3 Hammond organ .
