Electrotango

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Electrotango - Tango electrónico is a mixture and / or arrangement of classical tango music of Tango Argentino with electronic beats and sounds. In Electrotango, melodic style copies or actual classical tango music pieces can be used.

The style of music originated in Europe and Argentina at the same time in the late 1990s . There were initial approaches in the experimental house scene ( tango house ) as well as in trip-hop and drum and bass , examples can be found with the Argentine group Altocamet . However, the tracks were still based on samples from Tango records and an independent scene could not develop for a long time.

After the turn of the millennium, some bands began to play live using real instruments, which gave the style of music a boost in popularity. Formative were bands like the French Gotan Project with their debut album La Revancha del Tango , the Argentine group Tanghetto and the Bajofondo Tango Club project .

Usually in Electrotango a slow funk beat, similar to Trip-Hop , is mixed with tango fragments. But there are also Electrotango projects that use a house beat in 4/4 time as the basis . The stylistic variety within the genre is great.

After the success of the first projects, a large number of electro tango albums were thrown on the market in 2003 and 2004, which had been produced quickly and with the simplest means - the genre became a hope of financial success for musicians in economically desolate Argentina . In the course of 2005, the flood of publications decreased again and the pioneers Gotan Project devoted themselves again to classical structures of Tango Argentino with the album Lunático from 2006.

Electrotango as dance music

Neotango is often danced to Electrotango . The electronic clock is considered more beginner-friendly compared to the more complex clock changes of purely classical interpretations.
