Etango

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Etango (in its own spelling etangō ) is a German band from Osnabrück , founded in 2007 by Arne Bense and Ingo Daus , which belongs to the genre of Electrotango . The "ō" in the band name corresponds to the symbol for electrical conductivity and is intended to clarify the energy of the music.

Band history and style

The members of etangōs were initially Arne Bense ( composition , arrangements , electronic sound generation ), Ingo Daus (composition, arrangements, electric guitar ), Christiane Kumetat ( violin ), Oliwia Locher (violin) and Martin Gehrmann ( accordion ). Oliwia Locher left the band in 2009, Martin Gehrmann was replaced by Stefan Mertin on the bandoneon in 2010 .

Compared to other projects in the genre, the sound etangōs is more shaped by electronic sound generation. In addition to the common style elements such as drum loops and various effects on the "traditional" instruments, the band uses synthesizers and alienated guitar sounds. On their first CD Una hora con la realidad , the group works almost exclusively with compositions by Astor Piazzolla , whereby individual themes or motifs are taken up and processed, changed or shortened and combined with passages of their own production.

A second album with the title Discoteca was released in December 2012. In addition to some arrangements of traditional tangos, it contains mostly original compositions. The sequence of the pieces of music follows the sequence of a “classic” milonga : Tangos, milongas and valses alternate in four tandas , each with three pieces . The album was mastered by Bob Humid from Montevideo .
