Bajofondo is an Argentinian - Uruguayan Electrotango project by producers and musicians Gustavo Santaolalla and Juan Campodónico from the region around the Río de la Plata . Originally called Bajofondo Tango Club , the name was changed in 2007 to Bajofondo only in order to accommodate the broader musical spectrum ("New Music from the Río de la Plata").

Meaning of the name

Bajo fondo is a play on words and allows for several interpretations: In Buenos Aires this term is used to refer to the villas miserias . In this sense, bajo fondo means the lower end (of the social scale). Another translation of the word would be bass background . At the same time it is an allusion to the underground and arouses associations with hidden places and wicked places, in keeping with the myth of tango.
