Gustavo Beytelmann

Gustavo Beytelmann (* 1945 in Venado Tuerto ) is an Argentine tango pianist and composer.

biography

As a child, Beytelmann learned to play the piano and performed a. a. with the dance orchestra, in which his father played the violin. He studied music at the University of Rosario and took composition lessons with Francisco Kröpfl . He composed music for films (including La Maffia , Quebracho and Los Gauchos Judios ) and worked as musical director for the record company Microfon .

In 1976 he left Argentina for political reasons and settled in Paris as a pianist and composer. In 1977 he accompanied Astor Piazzolla on his European tour. With other Argentine musicians in exile, he then founded the group Tiempo Argentino , for which he also worked as a composer. After a time in Rome, where he composed for radio, television and cinema, he founded a trio in Paris with Juan José Mosalini and Patrice Caratini , with whom he traveled through Europe for twelve years and recorded three CDs.

At the same time he was increasingly active as a composer. He composed for film and television in Germany and France and was city composer in Dijon from 1995 to 1998. In 1996 he became head of the Tango Department at the Rotterdam Conservatory . In 2002 he gave guest lectures and conducted performances of his works in the USA at the invitation of the Universities of Seattle and Bellingham.

From 2002 to 2003 Beytelmann was Composer in Residence in Guebwiller. In 2004 he gave a concert at the Teatro Colón at the Tango Festival in Buenos Aires . Since 2005 he has been giving master classes at the Monaco Music Academy. In 2008 he was composer in residence at the Moritzburg international music festival .
