history

In the area around Venado Tuerto there were several fortresses in the 19th century in which the Spanish-born Argentinians tried to assert themselves against the Indians who dominated the area. After the last great battle in 1878, the situation calmed down and the pioneer Eduardo Casey founded the city on April 26, 1884. The city quickly developed into an important small center, especially after it was connected to the railway network in 1890. The population was characterized by immigrants from different European countries.

In 1963 the Roman Catholic diocese Venado Tuerto was established with its seat in Venado Tuerto.
