Lil 'Louis is the pseudonym of the American DJ and producer Louis Burns (* 1962 in Chicago , Illinois ). With French Kiss he had his international breakthrough in 1989.
biography
Louis Burns is the son of guitarist Bobby Sims, who played in the soul band Rotary Connection , and has nine siblings. He played drums and bass as a child, and began working as a DJ in the mid-1970s. Burns was nicknamed Lil 'Louis when performing at Club River's Edge . By the end of the decade he had his own club and began to develop his first editing techniques there. A tape recorder helped him, among other things .
In the 1980s, Lil 'Louis was hosting large house parties in Chicago. Burns also recorded his first productions there. The debut single How I Feel appeared on his own label . In 1987, French Kiss became a local hit . Two years later the title became a club and chart hit worldwide. Then Burns got a contract with the major label Epic Records and released his debut album From the Mind of Lil 'Louis in 1989 . The release I Called U also became a club hit and entered the UK Top 20.
When the second album Journey with the Lonely was largely unsuccessful, Lil 'Louis retired from the business for a few years and produced for other artists such as Babyface and Me'shell Ndegeocello . By collaborating with Masters at Work's Louie Vega , Burns got back into the business and worked among other things. a. with Black Magic. How's Your Evening so Far? by Josh Wink and Lil 'Louis was a hit in the UK charts in 2000.
