Matthew "Matt" Staton Bomer (born October 11, 1977 in Webster Groves , Missouri ) is an American actor . From 2009 to 2014 he played one of the lead roles as Neal Caffrey in the television series White Collar .

life and career

Bomer was born in 1977 in Missouri to Elizabeth Macy Staton and the former Dallas Cowboy John O'Neill Bomer IV and grew up with two siblings in the small town of Spring , Texas . Until 1996 he attended high school there and then Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh , where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000 . He then went to New York City and performed in various theaters before getting a small role as Ian Kipling in All My Children . In 2001 he became the third cast of the role of Ben Reade in Springfield Story and impersonated this until 2003. In the same year he was for the short-lived television series Tru Calling - Schicksal reloaded! cast and played Luc for a little more than a year. He also had a role in Flightplan - Without Any Trace (2005) with Jodie Foster . In 2006, Bomer was to take on the lead role of Clark Kent or Superman in Brett Ratner's film Superman Returns . However, when Ratner left the project, the main role was also re-cast with Brandon Routh . Between 2009 and 2014 he played one of the leading roles as Neal Caffrey in the television series White Collar . In the science fiction film In Time (2011), he appeared on the side of Justin Timberlake . In 2012 he played a stripper alongside Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey in Stephen Soderbergh's Magic Mike .

For his role as Felix Turner in The Normal Heart , he won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or TV Movie in 2014/15 , received an Emmy nomination in the same category and won the Critics' Choice Television Award for best supporting actor in a television movie or mini-series . The film is based on the eponymous autobiographical play by Larry Kramer (1985); at Bomer's side were Julia Roberts , Mark Ruffalo and Jim Parsons , among others . In 2015 he returned to the role of stripper Ken for Magic Mike XXL . In 2016 he played the antagonist John Boy in The Nice Guys alongside Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling . In the film Walking Out , which premiered as part of the Sundance Film Festival 2017 , he plays a leading role as a father who fights for survival with his son in the wilderness of Montana.

Matt Bomer is involved in research, education and medical care for people living with HIV / AIDS in a variety of ways. In February 2012 he received an award from the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards for his commitment. In his acceptance speech, he took the opportunity, among other things, to say thank you publicly and by name to his family for the first time, which his coming out meant and accordingly attracted a great deal of media attention.
