The Sinner is an American television series based on the novel Die Sünderin by German author Petra Hammesfahr . Originally designed for one season, the series was extended for a second season after the success of the first season. The focus of the series focus is that of Bill Pullman embodied policeman Harry Ambrose who tries to enlighten intricate crimes. He is the only actor who appears each season.
content
The first season follows the content of the novel, but the names and locations of the book have been adapted to the USA. A young mother stabs an apparently completely unknown man to death on the beach. However, she doesn't know what made her do it. Although the judiciary is beyond doubt about her perpetration, a persistent criminal investigator investigates the exonerating background of the case.
In the second season, Detective Harry Ambrose, again played by Bill Pullman , will help solve a double murder committed by a 13-year-old boy.
The plot of the third season is the investigation into a car accident fatal to the driver and the determination of the course of events as well as the examination of the surviving passenger.

Production and broadcast
After the series was ordered in January 2017 with eight episodes and Jessica Biel in the lead role, it was first broadcast on August 2, 2017 on the USA Network . The German premiere of the series was on November 7, 2017 on Netflix. Since February 22, 2019 shows pay TV transmitter RTL Crime also the show in the evening program.
In early 2018, the series was extended by a second season, which has aired in the US since August 1, 2018. The focus is now on the character of the investigator from the first season.
In March 2019, the series was extended for a third season, in which Matt Bomer took on a new leading role.
A fourth season of the series was ordered in June 2020.
