Carrie Coon (* 24. January 1981 in Copley , Ohio as Carrie Coon Alexandra ) is an American actress .

life and career

Carrie Coon was born in Copley , Ohio , in January 1981 , and grew up there in a family of three brothers and one sister. In Alliance , she graduated from the University of Mount Union with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish . She then did her Masters of Fine Arts in acting from the University of Wisconsin – Madison .

Coon began her career in many productions for the Steppenwolf Theater Company in Chicago, including in the plays Our Little City , Anna Christie , The Diary of Anne Frank , The Night of the Iguana , The Merchant of Venice , Measure for Measure , Romeo and Julia and Julius Caesar . In 2010 she starred in a new production of Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? the role of honey. She portrayed the same role in her Broadway debut a year later , for which she received a Theater World Award and a 2013 Tony Awards nomination for Best Supporting Actress .

She took her first television role in 2011 in an episode of the short-lived series The Playboy Club . After a major role in the short film One in a Million (2012), she played guest roles in the drama series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit , Ironside and Intelligence in 2013 and 2014 . In June 2013 she was cast for one of the leading roles in the HBO series The Leftovers , an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Tom Perrotta . In the series, which premiered at the end of June 2014, she portrayed Nora Durst, a wife and mother whose rest of the family has disappeared due to the so-called " Rapture ". In October 2014, Coon also starred in David Fincher's film adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel Gone Girl as Margo Dunne, the twin sister of Nick Dunne ( Ben Affleck ).

Carrie Coon has been married to actor and playwright Tracy Letts since 2013 .
