Gillian Flynn
Gillian Flynn (born February 24, 1971 in Kansas City , Missouri ) is an American writer .
life and work
Flynn studied journalism at the University of Kansas and Northwestern University . She first became a television critic for Entertainment Weekly before settling into writing. Her first novel, Sharp Objects (2006), which was published in Germany under the title Cry Baby , received several smaller prizes such as the “CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger 2007” and the “New Blood Dagger”. But it wasn't until Dark Places (2009) and above all the US bestseller Gone Girl (2012) brought about the big breakthrough. Gone Girl topped the New York Times bestseller list for several weeks in 2012 .
Three works were filmed: Gillian Flynn wrote the screenplay for Gone Girl , David Fincher took over the direction, and Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck played the leading roles . The director of Dark Places is Gilles Paquet-Brenner , with Charlize Theron and Christina Hendricks in the lead roles . Sharp Objects was published as a mini-series in September 2018, the script was also written by Flynn.
Gillian Flynn's books have been published in 28 countries to date. The author lives in Chicago with her husband and son .
Flynn's style is considered very dark (serial killer, satanism etc.) and has been praised by Stephen King . The setting is their home, the Midwest .
