Kolta (Hungarian Kolta ) is a medium-sized town in the west of Slovakia with a population of 1,258 (December 31, 2019) that the Nové Zámky District , a circle of Nitriansky kraj heard.

geography

The municipality is located on the southwestern edge of the Pohronská pahorkatina hill country within the Slovakian Danube lowlands , in a small valley. Two important elevations in the municipality are the Dlhý vrch ( 287  m nm ) north and the Svinský vrch ( 272  m nm ) east of the place. Almost parallel to each other, the Leština and Paríž streams flow through the Kolta . The center of the village is at an altitude of 175  m nm and is 20 kilometers from Nové Zámky .

Neighboring municipalities are Dedinka in the north, Čaka in the northeast, Farná in the east, Jasová in the south, Semerovo in the west and Čechy in the northwest.

history

Church in place

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1337 as Kolta and initially belonged to the Archdiocese of Gran , then partly to the Kürthy family and other families of the lower nobility. During the long Turkish wars of the 17th century, the village became deserted and the settlements of Harangozó and Kerekszállás were devastated. The inhabitants were not able to return until the 18th century, when there was a lively Jewish community with a school and synagogue. In 1828 there were 209 houses and 1,432 inhabitants employed in agriculture, especially lentil cultivation was traditional.

Until 1918/1919 the place in Komorn County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.

According to the 2011 census, there were 1,407 inhabitants in Kolta, 1,357 of whom were Slovaks, 19 Magyars, two Germans, two Poles, two Czechs and one Russian; one resident belonged to a different ethnic group. 23 residents gave no information in this regard. 1227 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church, five residents each to the Mormons and Evangelical Church AB, three residents to the Congregational Church, two residents to the Reformed Church and one resident each to the Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church; two residents professed a different denomination. 86 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 75 inhabitants was not determined.
