Belá ( Hungarian Béla ) is a small town in the west of Slovakia with 316 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Nové Zámky District of, a circle Nitriansky kraj heard.

geography

The municipality is located in the Slovak Danube lowlands in the middle of a small hill country called Belianske Kopce , near the Hungarian border on the Danube . The center of the village is at an altitude of 190  m nm and is eleven kilometers from Štúrovo and 43 kilometers from Nové Zámky .

Neighboring municipalities are Ľubá in the north, Mužla in the south and Šarkan in the west.

history

Church in Belá

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1138 as Bela and was at that time the property of the provost of Dömös . In 1225 goods belonging to the Gran Chapter and the Queen were recorded, in 1287 nobleman Peter Zovard was the landlord, in 1367 the village was donated by Ludwig the Great to Jakab Edubrand , as in 1434, but this time from Sigismund of Luxembourg to the Pogánytelki family . After 1532, Béla was destroyed during the long Turkish wars and was uninhabited in the 16th and 17th centuries; only in 1732 the place is mentioned again and at that time it belonged to the Untergespan of Gran County, Tersztyánszky . In 1828 there were 32 houses and 291 inhabitants who lived from agriculture.

Until 1918/1919, the place in Gran County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.

According to the 2011 census, there were 370 inhabitants in Belá, including 282 Magyars, 65 Slovaks and one Czech. 22 residents gave no information in this regard. 311 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church and nine residents supported the Protestant Church AB. 19 residents had no denomination and for 31 residents the denomination was not determined.

  • Roman Catholic church in baroque style from the first half of the 19th century
  • Country castle in baroque style from 1732. In 1780 the chapel was added, expanded in the 19th century at the behest of Baron Antal Baldácsy and a park was added to it. In 1945 the castle was confiscated by the Czechoslovak state and served, among other things, as a prison for political prisoners and as a paint and furniture store. After the fall of the Wall in 1989, Countess Ilona von Krockow , descendant of the last owner Georg Ullmann , bought the complex and had it extensively renovated before the castle was reopened in 2008 as a 5-star hotel called Château Béla

Belá is about two kilometers from a junction of the 2nd order road 509 ( Bajč - Štúrovo). The nearest train station is called Mužla and is on the Bratislava – Budapest railway line .
