Černík (until 1927 Slovak "Čornok" or "Černok"; Hungarian Csornok ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with a population of 1,045 (December 31, 2019) that the Nové Zámky District , a circle of Nitriansky kraj heard.

The municipality is located in the Slovakian Danube lowlands on the lower reaches of the Nitra , on its right bank. A part in the east rises as part of the Žitavská pahorkatina hill country . The center of the village is at an altitude of 129  m nm and is 11 kilometers from Šurany and 23 kilometers from Nitra and Nové Zámky .

Neighboring municipalities are Vinodol in the north, Michal nad Žitavou in the northeast, Kmeťovo and Maňa in the east, Mojzesovo in the south and Komjatice in the west.

history

Church in Černík

Černík was first mentioned in writing in 1156 as Cernic . Other historical names include Chornok utraque (1428), Felsewchornok (1439), Alsochornik (1444) and Cschornok (1786). After 1554 the village had to pay tribute to the Ottoman Empire, and in 1598 it was burned down by Ottoman troops. In 1828 there were 80 houses and 559 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.

Until 1918/1919, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.

According to the 2011 census, there were 1013 inhabitants in Černík, of which 920 were Slovaks , four Magyars and four Czechs and two Russians . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 82 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .

871 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church and two residents each for the Evangelical Church AB and the Orthodox Church; two residents professed a different denomination. 32 residents had no denomination and 104 residents had no denomination.
