Vinodol is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with a population of 2,005 (December 31, 2019). It is located in Okres Nitra , a district of Nitriansky kraj .
geography
Vinodol is located in the Danube Hills on the left bank of the Nitra River . The center, located at an altitude of 130 m nm , is 18 kilometers south of Nitra and 10 kilometers northeast of Šurany .
history
The present municipality was established in 1960 through the merger of the places Dolný Vinodol (until 1948 "Dolný Sileš"; German Untersillesch , Hungarian Alsószőlős ) and Horný Vinodol (until 1948 "Horný Sileš"; German Obersillesch , Hungarian Felsőszőlős ), which remain part of the municipality to this day. The name means something like "wine valley".
The original place was first mentioned in writing in 1113 as Zoulos .
