The place was created in 1955 by the merger of the municipalities Veľký Báb (1948: 928 inhabitants) and Malý Báb (1980: 926 inhabitants). Báb has retained its rural character to this day.
Veľký Báb was mentioned for the first time in 1156. At that time the place belonged to an official of the Nitra Castle . From 1268 the place belonged to the Nitra Castle, later it was given by the king to a citizen of Trnava , after which it belonged to different families. Lower nobility were represented in the 18th century by the Majthényi , Zichy and Esterházy families .
Malý Báb is only documented in 1365. Since 1788 the place had market rights . The lower nobility was identical to that of Veľký Báb.
