Čifáre (until 1948 Slovak also "Čifáry"; German Fäsch , Hungarian Csiffár ) is a Slovak municipality in Okres Nitra and Nitriansky kraj with 591 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

geography

The municipality is located in the northern part of the Pohronská pahorkatina hill country (part of the Danube hill country ) to the right of the Telinský potok brook in the Žitava catchment area . The center of the village is at an altitude of 170  m nm and is 17 kilometers from Levice and 28 kilometers from Nitra .

Neighboring communities are Nevidzany in the north, Kalná nad Hronom (district Mochovce ) in the northeast, Veľký Ďur in the east and south, Telince in the west and Tajná in the northeast.

history

Čifáre was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1209 as chief , a parish there between 1332 and 1337. In 1828 there were 82 houses and 571 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.

Until 1918, the place in Bars County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. As a result of the First Vienna Arbitration Award , it was once again part of Hungary between 1938 and 1945.

population

According to the 2011 census, 604 inhabitants lived in Čifáre, of which 408 were Slovaks , 173 Magyars and four Czechs . 19 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

507 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, three residents to the Reformed Church, two residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident each to the Evangelical Church AB, the Greek Catholic Church and the Pentecostal movement; two residents professed a different denomination. 38 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 49 residents was not determined.
