Horné Lefantovce (German upper Elephant , Hungarian Felsőelefánt ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 894 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Nitra District , part of the Nitriansky kraj belongs.
geography
The municipality is located on the western slope of the Tribeč Mountains in the Neutra Valley . The center of the village is at an altitude of 157 m nm and is located 20 kilometers from Nitra .
history
Horné Lefantovce was first mentioned in writing in 1113 as Villa Elefant , then as a separate place in 1291 as Fenlefanch . Important landowners in the Middle Ages were the Elefánt family and Kaplay . A Pauline monastery was established in 1369 , the members of which stayed in the village until 1785, three years after the order was dissolved. In 1713 the first school was founded.
From 1976 to 2002 the place with Dolné Lefantovce (German Unterelefant , Hungarian Alsóelefánt ) was part of the unified municipality Lefantovce.
