Nová Ves nad Žitavou (until 1927 Slovak "Žitavská Nová Ves"; German Neudorf , Hungarian Zsitvaújfalu ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with a population of 1,358 (December 31, 2019), which for Nitra District , part of the Nitriansky kraj belongs.
geography
The municipality is located in the Danube Hills , more precisely on the border between the sub-units Žitavská pahorkatina and Pohronská pahorkatina . The Žitava , which gives it its name , flows through the village and takes in the Drevenica stream at the lower end . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 152 m nm and is six kilometers from Vráble , 14 kilometers from Zlaté Moravce and 20 kilometers from Nitra .
history
Nová Ves nad Žitavou was first mentioned in writing in 1355 as Wyfalu . A kind of predecessor was the village Jovka (Hungarian Jóka ), which was mentioned in 1229 as terra Joka and was on the opposite left bank of the Žitava. There was a toll station in the village, near the border of the Neutra and Bars counties .
