Šurianky (until 1948 Slovak "Šuránky" - until the 19th century also "Malé Šurany"; Hungarian Surányka - until 1907 Suránka ) is a Slovak municipality in Okres Nitra and Nitriansky kraj with 574 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
geography
The municipality is located in the Nitrianska pahorkatina (part of the Danube Hills ) by the Perkovský creek . The 10.4 km² large municipal area is covered by black and brown soils and has been deforested. The center of the village is at an altitude of 160 m nm and is 17 kilometers from Nitra .
Administratively, the municipality is divided into parts of the municipality Perkovce and Šurianky.
history
Šurianky was first mentioned in writing in 1265 as Suran and belonged to the estate of Neutra Castle and the Diocese of Neutra . Furthermore, families like Ocskay , Erdődy and Jesenský had shares. In 1787 there were 30 houses and 198 inhabitants, in 1828 46 houses and 321 inhabitants. In 1909 the place Perkovce (Hungarian Nemesperk ) was incorporated.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
Residents
According to the 2011 census, there were 598 residents in Šurianky, including 577 Slovaks, two Magyars and one Czech. 18 residents did not provide any information. 541 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, eleven residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each to the Evangelistic Church, Old Catholic Church and the Baptists; one resident was of a different denomination. 20 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 22 residents has not been determined.
