Poľný Kesov (Hungarian Mezőkeszi ) is a Slovak municipality in Okres Nitra and Nitriansky kraj with 666 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

geography

The municipality is located in the southern part of the Nitrianska pahorkatina hill country (part of the Danube hill country ) on the middle course of the Cabajský creek . The center of the village is at an altitude of 172  m nm and is 20 kilometers from Nitra and 26 kilometers from Nové Zámky .

history

Poný Kesov was first mentioned in writing in the Zobor documents in 1113 as Kezu . The village belonged to the Forgách dynasty , after being briefly confiscated by the oligarch Matthäus Csák , it fell to the Hungarian crown. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the place was divided between different estates. In the middle of the 16th century the Turks occupied the place and built a hill here. In 1570 there was an inhabited and an uninhabited settlement. In 1599 Poľný Kesov was destroyed by the Turks, whereupon the village perished as such and the area was divided.

In the 18th century, a settlement called Horný Poľný Kesov was established in the Urmin municipality , with 14 houses and 202 inhabitants in 1787. In the meantime, a second settlement, called Dolný Poľný Kesov , was built in the Komjatice municipality .

Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In 1940 the two settlements were combined and created into an independent municipality.

Residents

According to the 2011 census, there were 622 inhabitants in Poľný Kesov, including 582 Slovaks, two Czechs and one each Magyar, Pole and Russian. 35 residents did not provide any information. 485 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 15 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each to the Greek Catholic Church, Orthodox Church and the Seventh-day Adventists; one resident was of a different denomination. 58 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 61 residents has not been determined.
