Veľký Lapáš (Hungarian Nagylapás ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 1,739 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Nitra District , part of the Nitriansky kraj belongs.
geography
The village is located in the western part of the Žitavská pahorkatina (part of the Danube Hills ) on the middle course of the Kadaň brook . The little more than 8.1 km² large municipal area is deforested and covered by black and brown soils. The town center is at an altitude of 160 m nm and is nine kilometers from Nitra .
history
The place was mentioned for the first time in 1113 in the Zobor documents as Lapas and the parish belonging to it in 1156. The village belonged to the Zobor Abbey and Neutra Castle . In the 13th century it came to the possession of the land nobility. In the 18th century there were several revolts against the owners. In 1828 there are 67 houses and 466 inhabitants. In 1882 the village burned down completely. The population still lives mainly from agriculture.
1960–1990 Veľký Lapáš was merged with the neighboring village Malý Lapáš in the municipality Lapáš.
