Lúčnica nad Žitavou is a Slovak municipality in Okres Nitra and Nitriansky kraj with 820 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
geography
The municipality is located in the Žitavská pahorkatina , a part of the Danube Hills , on the right bank of the Žitava . The center of the village is at an altitude of 137 m nm and is five kilometers from Vráble and 22 kilometers from Nitra .
Neighboring municipalities are Vráble in the north, Melek in the east, Žitavce in the southeast, Michal nad Žitavou in the south and Paňa in the west.
history
The present municipality was created in 1960 through the merger of the places Martinová (Hungarian Zsitvamártonfalu - until 1907 Mártonfalu ) and Vajka nad Žitavou (Hungarian Vajk ). Both remain cadastral communities to this day.
Martinová was first mentioned in writing as Martonfalva in 1437, when the royal estate was leased to the Ludányi family. In 1554 the village was set on fire and destroyed by the Turks. In the 16th century the village was owned by the Solymosi , Ghyczy families , and Botka , Kéres , Nagy and others in the 18th and 19th centuries . In 1750 32 families lived in Martinová, in 1828 there were 57 houses and 399 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.
Vajka nad Žitavou was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1113 as Wochoi and belonged to the dominions of the monastery at Zobor and the castle Szolgagyőr (Slov. Posádka) near Dvorníky . In 1286 the village came under the Hungarian crown, after which it was part of the estate of the Gýmeš castle near Jelenec until the 17th century . The local toll booth is mentioned in 1386 and 1424; in the 16th century, part of the town was affected by the Turks. In the 18th century the village was owned by the Boronkay , Boros and Vass families . In 1715 the village had 11 households, in 1828 there were 57 houses and 396 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.
Until 1918 the places in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Because of the First Vienna Arbitration Award , they were once again part of Hungary from 1938 to 1945.

According to the 2011 census, Lúčnica nad Žitavou had 894 inhabitants, including 873 Slovaks , 5 Magyars , 2 Czechs and 1 Rome . 13 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
769 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 10 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 2 residents each to the Old Catholic Church and 2 to the Orthodox Church and 1 resident each to the Brethren Church and the Evangelical Methodist Church. 64 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 45 inhabitants was not determined.
