Dolné Obdokovce (until 1927 Slovak "Bodok" or "Malé Obdokovce"; Hungarian Alsóbodok - until 1907 Bodok ) is a Slovak municipality in Okres Nitra and Nitriansky kraj with 1184 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

geography

The municipality is located in the western part of the Žitavská pahorkatina hills (part of the Danube hills ), south of the Tribeč Mountains , on the upper reaches of a nameless brook in the Žitava catchment area . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 197  m nm and is 12 kilometers from Nitra .

Neighboring municipalities are Hosťová in the north, Čeľadice in the north-east and east, Babindol in the south-east, briefly Golianovo in the south, Veľký Lapáš in the south-west, Malý Lapáš in the west and Pohranice in the north-west.

history

According to archaeological investigations, the current municipal area was settled in the Stone Age, so there are finds from the Lengyel culture and ceramic finds from the Bronze Age.

Dolné Obdokovce was first mentioned in writing as Bodok in 1228 , when it was involved in a dispute between the abbot of Hronský Beňadik and the Bishop of Neutra, Jacob. Other historical names are Bodak (1283), utraque Bodak (1335) and Obdokowce (1786). In 1283 the village was in the territory of the Neutra Castle , in 1549 it came under the ownership of the Diocese of Neutra . During the Turkish wars was Bodok drawn twice by the troops of the Ottoman Empire affected and that in the years 1586 and 1664. 1715 had the village of vineyards and 13 households in 1828 there were 79 houses and 502 inhabitants, who were employed as farmers and vintners.

Not far from the main town there was another place called Kernye in the Middle Ages . This was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1248 as part of the territory of the Neutra Castle. According to oral tradition, there was a wooden castle near Kernye . The village was owned by several families, but it went under in the 17th century and was never rebuilt.

Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Dolné Obdokovce had 1188 inhabitants, including 699 Magyars , 452 Slovaks and one Czech . 36 inhabitants did not give any information about their ethnicity .

1108 residents confessed to the Roman Catholic Church and one resident each to the Evangelical Methodist Church and the Reformed Church; seven residents professed a different denomination. 23 residents had no denomination and 48 residents had no denomination.

Buildings

  • Roman Catholic Church, originally built in the 12th century and enlarged in 1796. The interior is largely designed in the late baroque style.
