The Okres Nitra is an administrative area in the west of Slovakia km² with an area of 871 and 163 764 inhabitants (2004, 2001 there were 163,540, of which 149,060 (= 91.1%) Slovak and 10,956 (= 6.7%) of Hungarian origin).
Historically, the district is mostly in the former Neutra county (west), a smaller part in the east around the town of Vráble belongs to the former Bars county (see also the list of historical counties in Hungary ).
