The Okres Šaľa is an administrative area in the south of Slovakia with 54,110 inhabitants (2004, 2001 there were 52,718, of which 33,435 / 61.9% Slovak and 19,283 / 35.7% Hungarian) and an area of 356 square kilometers.
Historically, the district is mostly in the former Neutra county (east), a small part in the west around the places Diakovce , Tešedíkovo and Žihárec belongs to the former Pressburg county (see also the list of historical counties in Hungary ).
