Hájske (Slovak 1948–51 “Dverníky” - 1927–1948 “Kepežd” - until 1927 “Kepešd”; German Köppeschd , Hungarian Köpösd ) is a place and a municipality in Okres Šaľa of Nitriansky kraj in western Slovakia . The number of residents was 1,319 (December 31, 2019) .
geography
The municipality is located in the Slovakian Danube lowlands , more precisely in its hilly part . The surrounding black earth makes the area very fertile for agriculture. Hájske is 12 kilometers from Sereď and 17 kilometers from Šaľa .
In addition to the main town, the settlement Mladý háj also belongs to the municipality, but it is not an official district.
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1113 in the Zobor documents as Copusde and belonged to Neutra Castle . It was completely destroyed during the Mongol invasion in 1241. From the Middle Ages to the abolition of serfdom in the 19th century, various noble families had their estates here.
Until 1918 the place was in Neutra County within the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. In 1938 the place was to be assigned to the Hungarians as a result of the First Vienna Arbitration Award (which lasted until 1945), but remained with Czechoslovakia and Slovakia. In 1948 the Hungarian-sounding name was changed to Dverniky ("doorman") for national political reasons and then to Hájske (háj = "grove") in 1951.
In the past the main source of income for the population was agriculture, today the majority work in industry.
The Roman Catholic Church from 1841 is on the plan of an older church.
