Selice (Hungarian Szelőce ) is a municipality in Okres Šaľa of the Nitriansky kraj in southwest Slovakia . The number of inhabitants on December 31, 2010 was 2959 people.
geography
The municipality is located in the Slovakian Danube lowlands on the left bank of the Waag . In addition, the Dlhý kanál ("Long Canal") runs east of the municipality . Apart from the alluvial forests near the Waag, the area is mostly deforested and used for agricultural purposes. Selice is 14 kilometers from Šaľa and 27 kilometers from Nové Zámky .
The formerly independent village Šók (incorporated in 1946, until 1927 in Slovak Maďarský Šok ; Hungarian Magyarsók ) also belongs to the municipality, but it is not a district.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1078 as Seleuch . The place was dominated by agriculture, there were also some mills on the Waag.
The place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1919 and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . In 1938, Czechoslovakia had to cede the place to Hungary after the First Vienna Arbitration and it was there again until 1945.
