mairisch Verlag is a German publisher based in Hamburg .

history

The mairisch publishing in which books, radio plays appear and music, was founded in 1999 by Peter Reichenbach, Blanka pride and Daniel Beskos. The name mairisch goes back to the Hessian expression for 'weeds'. The publisher belongs to the group of independent publishers and appears together with other of these publishers (e.g. Kookbooks , Verbrecher Verlag , Salis and Luftschacht ) at the book fairs in Frankfurt and Leipzig, among others. a. as the organizer of the annual young publishers party .

One focus is on contemporary prose (novels, but above all also volumes of short stories) by young German authors, including many debuts. The author Finn-Ole Heinrich achieved his first major national success in 2007 with his novel Robber Hands . This led to the fact that the book was the subject of high school diplomas in Hamburg schools in 2013 and 2014 and is performed by various theaters.

The radio play anthologies pressplay , in which productions from the independent radio play scene were published in a bundle for the first time in Germany, also attracted a lot of attention .

Since 2012 the publisher has also published graphic novels, including a. the winners of the annual AFKAT Graphic Novel Award.

Since 2013, another focus of the publisher has been on non-fiction books.

In addition to the publisher's productions, there are around 200 literary events per year, such as the reading series TRANSIT (2003–2008) and PILOTEN (2013–2014) and the LESECLUBFESTIVAL (since 2019) in Hamburg, but also reading / concert tours by im Publishing house authors and musicians.

In 2009, mairisch Verlag was one of the initiators of the Hotlist , the annual book prize awarded by independent publishers. In 2013 mairisch Verlag initiated the Indiebookday , an annual day of action for books from independent publishers.

Since 2016, the publisher has been moving its headquarters to changing cities abroad for a short period of time, often to the host country of the respective Frankfurt Book Fair. In 2016 the team spent a month in Amsterdam and in 2017 two weeks in Paris.
