Luftschacht (own spelling: ° luftschacht) is a book publisher for contemporary literature based in Vienna. The company was founded in 2001 by Stefan Buchberger and Gabriel Vollmann and, after some time of conceptual and networking work and event projects with authors, musicians, photographers and actors, launched its first book program in the spring of 2003.

The focus of the publishing program directed by Stefan Buchberger and Jürgen Lagger is on German-language original editions, especially novels and longer stories. The annual anthology of the literary young talent competition Wortlaut on the Austrian radio station FM4 is also a fixed item on the program .

“Luftschacht” originally referred to a music-text-performance project initiated in the early / mid-1990s. An air shaft connected the test cellar and the outside world. He supplied the artists with oxygen, and at the same time he published the sounds and texts that were created inside.

The authors of Luftschacht Verlag include Nicolas Mahler , Dennis Cooper , Stephan Alfare , Lukas Kollmer , Hanno Millesi , Manfred Rumpl , Alexander Schimmelbusch and Johannes Weinberger .
