Žihárec (until 1948 Slovak "Žigard"; Hungarian Zsigárd ) is a municipality in Okres Šaľa in Slovakia .
location
The place is south of the city of Šaľa in Nitriansky kraj , the neighboring places are Tešedíkovo , Diakovce , Neded , Vlčany , Kráľov Brod and Selice . The landscape is rather rural and very flat and is part of the Slovakian Danube lowlands .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing as Sygart in 1251 . During the Turkish wars, the place was heavily depopulated in the 16th century.
In 1910, the place in what was then Pressburg County had 2,626 inhabitants, of whom 2,624 were of Hungarian descent. In 1918 he came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. After the First Vienna Arbitration , the place recently became part of Hungary from 1938 to 1945.
