The Okres Nové Zámky is an administrative area in the south of Slovakia with 148,001 inhabitants (2004, 2001 there were 149,594, of which 89,051 (59.5%) Slovak and 57,271 (38.3%) Hungarian) and an area of 1,347 square kilometers.

In the north it borders on the Nitra and Levice districts , in the east for the most part also on the Levice district and Hungary , in the south further on Hungary and the Komárno district and in the west on the Šaľa district . It is one of the largest and most populous districts in Slovakia.

Historically, the district is largely in the former Neutra county (north), a smaller part in the south and between the towns of Dvory nad Žitavou and Strekov belongs to the former Komorn county , the north-eastern part around Veľké Lovce to the former Bars county , the largest part in the east to Gran county and a small part around Salka to Hont county (see also list of historical counties of Hungary ).

The area of ​​the Okres Štúrovo , which was dissolved in 1960, also belongs to the Okres .
