Trávnica (until 1948 Slovak "FIS", Hungarian Barsfüss - until 1907 Füss ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with a population of 1,197 (December 31, 2019) that the Nové Zámky District , a circle of Nitriansky kraj heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the middle of the Pohronská pahorkatina hills within the Slovakian Danube lowlands . Trávnica is traversed by the Trávnicky potok , a little further east the Liska flows ; both are part of the Žitava river system . The center of the village is at an altitude of 130 m nm and is 17 kilometers from Šurany and 30 kilometers from Levice and Nové Zámky .
Neighboring municipalities are Žitavce in the north, Lula in the northeast, Beša and Bardoňovo in the east, Pozba in the southeast, Podhájska in the south, very briefly Radava and Hul in the southwest and Vlkas and Maňa in the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1075 as Fius ; Most of the village belonged to the local nobles and a small part of the Hronský Beňadik Abbey . Over the centuries, families like Balog , Bencsik , Festetics , Forgách and others have been among the owners. At the end of the 17th century the village was burned down and devastated, but then repopulated. In 1828 there were 129 houses and 912 inhabitants who lived from agriculture, viticulture, horse breeding and livestock.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Bars County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.
In 1948 the name Fíš, derived from the Hungarian, was replaced by the Slavic variant Trávnica . Thus the place name means something like "Grasdorf".
population
According to the 2011 census, 1129 inhabitants lived in Trávnica, 1087 of them Slovaks, five Magyars, five Czechs and one Roma. 31 residents gave no information in this regard. 1003 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, seven residents to the Protestant Church AB, three residents to the Reformed Church, two residents each to the Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church and one resident to the Jehovah's Witnesses. 52 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination was not determined for 59 inhabitants.
