Gbelce (until 1948 Slovak "Köbölkút"; Hungarian Köbölkút ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia , with a population of 2,156 (as of December 31, 2019) . It belongs to the Okres Nové Zámky , a district of the parent Nitriansky kraj . The population is predominantly Hungarian-speaking, there is also a Slovak minority.
geography
The municipality is located on the edge of the Danube Hills within the Slovak Danube lowlands , just as distant from the Danube and the Hron River. The south side is drained by the Marcelovský potok , a tributary of the Danube, while the Paríž brook flows on the north side . The Parížske močiare (German swamps of Paríž ), a protected area under the Ramsar Convention, are located on the marshy terrain of the second-mentioned brook . The " local mountain" of the place is the Drienova hora ( 226 m nm ) west of the municipality. Gbelce is 18 kilometers from Štúrovo and 36 kilometers from Nové Zámky .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1233 as Cubulcut . The name means something like "stone fountain" in Hungarian.
Until 1919, the place in Gran County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia . 1938-45 he was again part of Hungary due to the First Vienna Arbitration .
