Semerovo (until 1927 Slovak "Semer"; Hungarian Komáromszemere - until 1907 Szemere ) is a medium-sized town in the west of Slovakia with 1,379 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Nové Zámky District , a circle of Nitriansky kraj heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the Slovakian Danube lowlands on the western edge of its lower part, the Pohronská pahorkatina hills . It is traversed by the Baranovský creek , which feeds a small reservoir northwest of the village. The center of the village is at an altitude of 150 m nm and is 18 kilometers from Nové Zámky .
Neighboring municipalities are Veľké Lovce in the north, Čechy in the northeast, Kolta in the east, Jasová and Dubník for short in the south, Dvory nad Žitavou in the southeast and Branovo in the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1210 as Scemera and belonged to several members of the lower nobility, such as the Csúzy family in the 15th century. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the village was completely devastated as part of the Turkish wars and after the end of the war it was repopulated by people from the Myjava area. In 1828 there were 119 houses and 740 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and as weavers.
Until 1918/1919 the place in Komorn County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.

According to the 2011 census, there were 1,452 inhabitants in Semerovo, including 1,249 Slovaks, 27 Magyars, five Czechs and one German. 170 residents gave no information in this regard. 1,067 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, ten residents the Evangelical Church AB, nine residents the Greek Catholic Church, five residents the Jehovah's Witnesses and two residents the Reformed Church; two residents professed a different denomination. 138 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 239 residents was not determined.
