Kmeťovo (until 1948 Slovak "Dorok"; Hungarian Gyarak ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 822 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Nové Zámky District , a circle of Nitriansky kraj heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the Slovak Danube lowlands , more precisely in the southern part of the Žitavská pahorkatina hills , on the right bank of the Žitava . The slightly hilly municipal area is mainly covered by black soils and is well suited for agriculture. The town center is located at an altitude of 134 m nm and is 10 kilometers from Vráble , 27 kilometers from Nové Zámky and 29 kilometers from Nitra .
Neighboring communities are Michal nad Žitavou in the north, Maňa in the east and south and Černík in the west.
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1214 as Girok or Gyrok and was first part of the territory of the Szolgagyőr Castle (in Slovak Posádka ) near today's Dvorníky municipality . In 1295 the village became the property of the Archdiocese of Gran, then from 1386 it belonged to the estate of the Ghymes Castle near Jelenec . The inhabitants were simple subjects who had to do their masters' labor in the surrounding towns. Between 1571 and 1573, Gyarak was devastated by the Turks and then built on the right bank of the Žitava instead of the left. In 1828 there were 69 houses and 485 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.
In 1948 the place was given its current name in honor of the Slovak botanist Andrej Kmeť .

According to the 2011 census, 902 inhabitants lived in Kme Einwohnerovo, 884 of them Slovaks and one Magyar , one Moravian and one Russian . 15 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
828 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, nine residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses, two residents each to the Apostolic Church and the Pentecostal Movement, and one resident each to the Baha'itum and one to the Greek Catholic Church. 24 residents were without a denomination and the denomination was not determined for 35 residents.
