Kamenný Most (until 1948 Slovak "Kamenné Ďarmoty"; Hungarian Kőhidgyarmat ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 1,064 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the Nové Zámky District , a circle of Nitriansky kraj belongs.
geography
The municipality is located in the Slovakian Danube hill country , more precisely in the lower part of Ipeľská pahorkatina , on the right bank of the Hron . Not far from the village, the Paríž brook flows into the Hron, which in turn flows into the Danube a few kilometers downstream . The center of the village is at an altitude of 112 m nm and is eight kilometers from Štúrovo and 45 kilometers from Nové Zámky .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1271 as Gormoth . The name refers to a medieval stone bridge over the Hron, which the Archdiocese of Gran had built and then collected tolls. Today, next to the name, the municipal coat of arms reminds of the bridge. During the Turkish wars in the 17th century, the place was in the area occupied by the Ottoman Empire. In 1828 there are 103 houses and 773 inhabitants.
The place in Gran County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1919 and then became part of Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.
