Babindol (Hungarian Babindál ) is a Slovak municipality in Okres Nitra and Nitriansky kraj with 808 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

geography

The municipality is located in the middle of the Žitavská pahorkatina (part of the Danube Hills ), south of the Tribeč Mountains , on both sides of the Babindolský creek in the Žitava catchment area . The center of the village is at an altitude of 175  m nm and is 14 kilometers from Nitra .

Neighboring municipalities are Dolné Obdokovce in the north, Čeľadice in the northeast, Klasov in the east and southeast and Golianovo in the west.

history

Emmerich Church

Babindol was first mentioned in writing in 1271 as Babyndal . At that time the place belonged to the Kozma family , later to the Paluska , Szlávy , Malonya families , among others . In 1741 the residents planted vineyards around the village. In 1828 there were 38 houses and 266 inhabitants, who were mainly employed as farmers.

Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Between 1938 and 1945, Babindol was a border town with Hungary, which was enlarged after the First Vienna Arbitration .

From 1976 to 1996, Babindol was administratively part of the Klasov municipality.

The place name translates as "Frauental" or "Weibertal".

population

According to the 2011 census, there were 667 residents in Babindol, including 485 Slovaks , 147 Magyars and two Czechs . 33 residents gave no information on ethnicity .

598 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, two residents each to the Evangelical Church AB and the Pentecostal Movement and one resident to the Greek Catholic Church. 22 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 42 residents was not determined.
