Malý Cetín (until 1927 Slovak "Malý Citýň"; German Kleinzitin , Hungarian Kiscétény ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 438 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Nitra District , part of the Nitriansky kraj belongs.
geography
The municipality is located on the western edge of the Žitavská pahorkatina hills (part of the Danube hills ) on the lower reaches of the Nitra . The center of the village is at an altitude of 135 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Nitra .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1113 as Syrinc and was at that time an estate of the monastery at Zobor . After the 15th century it belonged to the Archdiocese of Gran , which leased the village to noblemen from Veľký Cetín . In 1787 there were 39 houses and 217 inhabitants, in 1828 38 houses and 265 inhabitants.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
From 1960 to 1990 Malý Cetín was merged with the neighboring municipality of Čechynce in the municipality of Nitrany.

In 2011, 388 inhabitants lived in the village, of whom 349 were Slovaks, 33 Magyars, 2 Czechs, 1 Serb and 1 other ethnic group; the ethnic group has not been determined for 2 inhabitants. 778 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church and 4 residents to the Protestant Church AB 19 residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 9 residents has not been determined.
