Victor Lindelöf (born July 17, 1994 in Västerås ) is a Swedish football player . The defender became European champion with the Swedish U-21 national team in 2015 .
Career
society
Lindelöf started playing football at IK Franke in his hometown Västerås. He joined the youth department at Västerås SK in 2007 through the youth of Västerås IK . At the end of the 2010 season he made his debut in the third division Division 1 in the first team, with which he rose to the Superettan . As a result, he established himself in both his club and in the Swedish youth national teams in the squad. At the end of the second division season in 2012 , he rose with the team from the Superettan.
Lindelöf moved to Portugal in the junior division of Benfica Lisbon at the turn of the year 2012/13 . In the summer of 2013 he won the Portuguese youth championship, then he moved up to the club's reserve team . On the last match day of the 2014/15 season , he made his debut for the club's first team, who were already champions, in the Primeira Liga .
On June 10, 2017, Manchester United announced that they had reached an agreement with Benfica Lisbon to transfer Lindelöf. Four days later, he signed a four-year contract until the summer of 2021.
National team
In October 2014 he made his debut as part of the qualification for the U-21 European Championship 2015 in the Swedish U-21 national team, which was successfully completed. Initially not intended by the selection coach Håkan Ericson for participation in the U-21 European Championship, Lindelöf moved up to the squad a few days before the start of the tournament after Emil Krafth was injured . In the first game against Italy he was still a substitute, he was in the starting line-up in the following tournament games and reached the final against the Portuguese U-21 national team with the national team . In the penalty shoot-out , he converted the last Swedish penalty . After Patrik Carlgren then William Carvalho had parried penalty, the Swedes won their first title at a UEFA tournament. Together with his teammates Filip Helander and Oscar Lewicki , he was elected to the "Official Team of the Tournament". On March 24, 2016, he was used for the first time in an A international match against Turkey in Antalya and was in the starting line-up.
At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in Sweden's squad. In all three group games he was in the starting line-up. He was one of the players who played all games over the full playing time. After the preliminary round, the team was eliminated from the bottom of the group.
On the occasion of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he was appointed to the Swedish squad . During the course of the tournament he was used in four out of five games.
