Jan Olsson (born March 18, 1944 in Kungshamn ) is a former Swedish national soccer player and soccer coach.

career

Club career

Olsson made his debut for GAIS Göteborg in Division 2 in 1965 . With seven goals in 21 games, he helped the club to return to the Allsvenskan . In his first first division season he was without a goal, but in the second year he scored nine goals this season.

After he had scored 16 times in a total of 70 first division games by the summer of 1969, Olsson moved to Germany in the Bundesliga for VfB Stuttgart . There he scored 20 goals in 64 games in two seasons. In 1970 he was awarded the Guldbollen as Sweden's Footballer of the Year.

In the summer of 1971, Olsson returned to his home country. Although GAIS was relegated back to the second division in 1970, he was hired again at his home club. Immediately succeeded the recovery, to which Olsson contributed with two goals in eleven games. He played 39 more times in the Allsvenskan before he had to play his last game for GAIS on April 21, 1974 due to a knee injury and ended his career.

National team

Olsson made 22 international appearances for Sweden . With the country selection, he took part in the 1970 World Cup, in which Sweden failed in the group stage to Italy and Uruguay .

Coaching career

In the 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons, Olsson was coach of the German regional soccer team Eintracht Braunschweig . He was released on September 24, 1995 after fourteen months of service.
