Hanna Gunilla Marklund (born November 26, 1977 in Skellefteå ) is a former Swedish soccer player and today's sports commentator . In 2005 she was awarded the Diamond Ball as the best female footballer of the year in Sweden.

Career

Club career

Marklund played in her youth at Varuträsk IF and began her career in Damallsvenskan at Sunnanå SK in her hometown of Skellefteå. For the 2000 season she moved to Umeå IK . With the club she was Swedish champion three times in a row from 2000 to 2002, with the last two titles even winning the cup. In addition, she was in the final of the 2003/04 UEFA Women's Cup , in which 1. FFC Frankfurt was outclassed 3-0 and 5-0. Since 2005 she has been back at her hometown club Sunnanå SK, where her sisters Carolina and Mirjam also play. On January 7, 2008, Marklund ended her playing career due to her pregnancy. She announced her comeback in October 2008 before finally ending her career in late 2010.

National team

Marklund also played 101 times for the Swedish national team since her debut on August 30, 1997 against Iceland . For the country selection, she took part in the World Championships in 1999 and 2003 , where they only lost to Germany in the final . She also took part in the soccer competitions of the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004 . In 2004 they lost the game for 3rd place again against the German selection. In winter 2007 she resigned from the Swedish national team.
