Career

Svahn started playing football at Malmö FF , but moved to Kulladals FF in his youth . In the fall of 1956 he returned to Malmö FF and made his debut for his new club in the Allsvenskan the following year . He soon established himself as a regular player in the left offensive side of the Skåne club and subsequently played for the Swedish national team. On August 9, 1961, he ran in the 4-0 win over the Finnish national team in Idrottsparken in Norrköping alongside Rune Börjesson , Lennart Wing , Orvar Bergmark , Gösta Sandberg and Lennart Backman for the first time in the national jersey and crowned his selection debut with the first two hits of the game. As a result, he was regularly used in the national team, including the 1: 2 defeat in November of that year against the Swiss national team in Berlin's Olympic Stadium in the playoff for qualifying for the 1962 World Cup in Chile on neutral ground.

After Svahn was only irregularly part of the Swedish national team in the following years, he won his first title with Malmö FF in the 1965 season when the team won the Von Rosens Cup for the Swedish national champions with two points ahead of IF Elfsborg . Two years later, he led the team to double the championship and win the national cup . At the end of the year, his performance - he had prepared 19 of the 22 goals this season for league top scorer Dag Szepanski - was personally honored when he was awarded the guldbollen for the Swedish football player of the year.

At the age of 30, Svahn left his home country in 1968 and moved to the Belgian club Royal Daring Club Molenbeek . For the club, which moved into the final of the Belgian National Cup against Club Bruges in 1970 and suffered a 6-1 defeat there, he completed two seasons. In the summer of 1970 he returned to Malmö FF and won with the club at the end of the 1970 season his third league title in Sweden. He then ended his active career after a total of 414 games for the Swedish club.
