The Östgötaporten (formerly Norrköpings Idrottspark and Nya Parken ) is a football stadium in the Swedish city of Norrköping . The facility is the home ground of the Swedish football clubs IFK Norrköping (men), IFK Norrköping DFK (women), IF Sylvia and IK Sleipner .
history
The stadium was inaugurated in 1903. In the early days, the stadium was part of an extensive sports facility which, in addition to the soccer field, also had tennis facilities (inaugurated in 1906), a ski jumping hill (1909–1923), curling tracks (inaugurated in 1918) and athletics facilities. In 1946 the municipality of Norrköping took over the park.
Today's World Cup grandstand with 5,599 covered seats was built for the 1958 Soccer World Cup in Sweden. Two group matches ( France against Paraguay and Paraguay against Scotland ) and a quarter-final match (France against Northern Ireland ) were played in the Norrköpings Idrottspark stadium during the 1958 World Cup .
In 1987, the east stand (2,228 covered seats) was built, so the existing athletics facility disappeared and the stadium became a pure football stadium. Before the 1992 European Football Championship in Sweden , the stadium was renovated and rebuilt. The south stand (6,700 standing places) and the north stand (2,387 seats and 2,500 standing places (guest block)) were created and a spectator capacity of 19,414 was achieved. During the European Football Championship in 1992, three group stage games took place in Norrköpings Idrottspark.
For the 100th anniversary of the stadium in 2003, a friendly match between Sweden and Greece (1: 2) took place there. The audience record is 32,234 spectators at the game IFK Norrköping against Malmö FF in 1956. In 2008 and 2009 the parking lot was rebuilt again. The natural turf field was replaced by an artificial turf surface and the capacity was reduced to 16,700 places. At the same time, the stadium was given the new name Nya Parken . 2010, the club bought the stadium from the city of Norrkoping for 308.5 million SEK . In 2013 Nya Parken was one of seven venues for the European Women's Football Championship . There were three preliminary round matches and a semi-final in Norrköping.
On April 11, 2016, the Swedish real estate company Östgötaporten AB acquired the naming rights to the stadium. The sponsorship contract initially has a term of five years. No information was given about the financial volume of the agreement.
